VIP 10mg

VIP, short for Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide, is a naturally occurring 28-amino-acid neuropeptide that has been extensively studied in molecular biology, physiology and receptor pharmacology. Synthetic VIP is used experimentally to investigate the signalling mechanisms associated with this naturally occurring peptide.

First isolated in the early 1970s, VIP was initially identified in intestinal tissue but was subsequently found to have a much broader distribution throughout the nervous system and other tissues. These discoveries led to extensive scientific interest in its role as a signalling molecule.

VIP exerts its biological activity primarily through VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, members of the G-protein-coupled receptor family. Researchers have studied these receptor interactions to understand downstream signalling mechanisms, including pathways involving cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).

Published research involving VIP spans a broad range of biological systems. Experimental studies have investigated its involvement in neuropeptide signalling, vascular biology, smooth-muscle regulation, immune and inflammatory signalling, gastrointestinal physiology and cellular communication.

VIP is also of interest in neuroscience and molecular research because of its function as a neuropeptide and neurotransmitter/modulator. Laboratory models have been used to investigate how VIP-mediated signalling influences communication between cells and interacts with other regulatory pathways.

These characteristics have established VIP as an important research peptide for investigating receptor pharmacology, cellular signalling and the molecular mechanisms associated with neuropeptide activity.

This preparation contains 10 mg of lyophilised VIP supplied exclusively as a laboratory research material.
